Course Description:
Work Zone Safety Training is a two-day course designed to teach utility, county, municipal, and contractor supervisors, foremen, and engineers the basics of Work Zone Traffic Control. The course covers the parts of a temporary traffic control zone, the five different tapers and how to calculate their lengths, all SCDOT approved traffic control devices, mobile operations, flagging, worker/ equipment safety, and steps to minimize litigation. The focus for this course is short-term, daytime operations which last no longer than one work shift.
Course Instructor:
Wilma Magyar is currently the instructor for the South Carolina Department of Transportation Work Zone Training Program. She is primarily responsible for the development of course materials currently used for SCDOT maintenance and construction personnel in work zone training. She is a certified ATSSA Work Zone Traffic Control and Flagging Instructor, Certified OSHA 10 Hour Road Way Construction Instructor, SC National Safety Council Instructor for First Aid/CPR/AED as well as conducting job site and traffic control assessments throughout the southeast and internationally. She has extensive background in safety, risk management, compliance and loss control management. Previously, Ms. Magyar was the Safety and Risk Manager for Wilbur Smith & Associates where she was responsible for developing and implementing safety and quality assessment programs in pre-planning through construction phases targeting overall project efficiency and minimizing worker’s compensation claims.

Schedule:
Class registration is from 8:00-8:30. The class will begin at 8:30. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 3:00pm.
Who Should Attend:
This course is best suited for county, city, and utility personnel who are responsible for establishing traffic controls through short-term utility and maintenance work areas.
Course Fee:
The registration fee for the two-day workshop is $150.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $75.00 per person. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and the noon luncheon.
Advance registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. Workshops with low advance registration will be subject to cancellation.
UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.
If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training. No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
