With math basics followed by lessons in calculating length, area, volume, and quantities, this interactive course presents how to estimate highway maintenance work in real world situations using the math you already know! Utilizing a step-by-step approach, complex situations encountered by highway and street departments will be broken down into simple pieces.
The course is a series of modules. Each module explains basic math concepts or illustrates how to estimate quantities for typical maintenance operations. You will be encouraged to ask questions, work through some problems, and build your confidence in what you can do. At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
Todd Morrison, P.E., is a Technology Transfer Engineer with the Kentucky Local Technical Assistance Program, at the University of Kentucky. He retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after serving in the Divisions of Construction, Maintenance and Traffic. At the Cabinet, he worked with environmental, work zone, pavement, construction and maintenance concerns as an Environmental Coordinator, Maintenance/Traffic Engineer, Resident/Construction Engineer, Area Engineer, and as a Branch Manager for Operations.
Class registration is from 8:00-8:30am. The class will begin at 8:30. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 3:30pm.
The registration fee for the workshop is $195.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $95.00. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and lunch.
This course has a maximum of 35 students, and will be capped at this number. Advanced registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. Workshops with low advanced registration will be subject to cancellation.
This course is a six-hour workshop and is for anyone who needs to solve common on the job problems. This includes Foremen, Superintendents, Crew Leaders, and Maintenance Workers.
UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.
If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training. No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
