Course Description:
This course will review the key concepts of stormwater runoff conveyance and how they translate to associated maintenance issues typically encountered in the field. Maintenance issues will include erosion, sediment accumulation, failing pipe and ditch systems. The course includes basic field work to familiarize attendees with how to use a rod and level to verify slope and assist with problem solving.

Course Instructor:
Christopher J. Estes is president of Estes Design, Inc., an environmental design and consulting company that specializes in stormwater, stormwater quality, and environmental regulation.

Before starting his company in 2001, Mr. Estes worked for the City of Charlotte Engineering Department’s Storm Water Division where he spent 9 years inspecting, designing and constructing the city’s aging stormwater infrastructure.

Mr. Estes served as a training resource for North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Natural Resource Conservation Service and local municipalities on streams & sustainable storm water techniques. Mr. Estes, being an avid proponent of research, initiated five collaborative urban storm water research projects with University of North Carolina Charlotte, including Charlotte’s first pervious concrete BMP in 2003. At Estes Design, Mr. Estes continues to collaborate on projects with Universities in the southeast including North Carolina, South Carolina and Kentucky. Mr. Estes also maintains collaborative relationships in Denmark and England.

Schedule:
Class registration is from 8:00-8:30. The class will begin at 8:30. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 4:00pm.

Course Fee:
The registration fee for the workshop is $150.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $60.00. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and the noon luncheon.

Advance registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. This class is limited to 25 participants. Workshops with low advance registration will be subject to cancellation.

Payment Policy

UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training.  No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
