Participants are sub-grouped at separate tables by department type. Each specialty group is challenged to identify and solve storm preparedness problems common to their division. Real-life “pre-, mid- and post-storm” issues are reviewed to develop proactive storm preparedness checklists for both facilities and field tasks.
Program Highlights:
Part 1—Personal/Family Preparation: Common past experiences with smaller hurricanes lure many of us into complacency.
Part 2—Preparing the Public Agency: This part educates employees on the overall emergency management process. It discusses YOUR agency’s emergency management coordinator’s role and the basic features of an emergency operations center (EOC).
Part 3—Preparing the Public Agency Department(s): This section discusses department-level preparedness and reviews lists of activities performed on a calendar basis and on a time-line basis once an emergency is declared.
Part 4—Preparing Your Public Agency Employees: This component covers important preparations on the part of the city, county, utility or government agency to possibly house, fit and provision your employees who may staff emergency centers or stage at other city locations
Part 5—Storm Recovery Safety Issues: This final section identifies hazards related to storm damage inspection, tree work, structure demolition, building tarping/repair and debris removal.
Part 6—Storm Recovery Safety Briefings and Other Training: As recommended by OSHA, periodic employee briefing/debriefing sessions, frequent “tailgate” meetings and the provision of other training information is important. A list of sources for free training information is provided.
Tony DeCresie brings a very diverse and extensive background spanning numerous industries – working with both public and private entities. He is a nationally recognized training manager with several different organizations over the past 25 years. Tony’s primary area of focus revolves around public works safety, transportation, highway & road work site safety training and basic heavy equipment operations safety. Tony’s dedication to training has led him to become well-versed in a broad spectrum of OSHA and DOT safety training topics. He previously served as a DOT Certified Safety Manager and as the Director of the Road Scholar Certification Program and the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Tony currently serves as the National Training Director and a Senior Safety Instructor for Training USA.
This workshop will begin at 8:30 am. Please arrive around between 8 & 8:15 am for introduction for the workshop will start at 8:15 am, Lunch will be provided, and we will conclude around 4:45pm.
The registration fee for the workshop is $195.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $95.00. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and lunch.
This course has a maximum of 40 students, and will be capped at this number. Advanced registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. Workshops with low advanced registration will be subject to cancellation.
This course is designed for DOT, municipal public works, parks, streets/roads, water, wastewater, distribution/collection and/or storm water utility workers or any other government entity employees who may be called on for storm preparation and recovery operations, including “away” operations while providing mutual aid.
UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.
If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training. No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
